Music Theorist in Residence

We are delighted to announce that Professor Gary Karpinski, Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will be this year's Music Theorist in Residence. Those who would like to learn more about Professor Karpinski's research and publications can visit his Google Scholar profile:

On Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 November, Professor Karpinski will give lectures in Leuven.
On Thursday 19 and Friday 20 November, he will speak in Amsterdam.

​Michael Spitzer, University of Liverpool

Michael Spitzer is Professor of Music at the University of Liverpool. He works at the intersection of music with other disciplines, such as philosophy, psychology, biology and religion. His publications include works on Adorno and Beethoven, and one of his most recent books is titled A History of Emotion in Western Music: A Thousand Years from Chant to Pop. Zsolt Gárdonyi

From 20 to 22 November 2017, the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (KC) and the Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory (VvM) will host the Music Theorist in Residence event in The Hague. The central guest will be the Hungarian-German composer, organist, and music theorist Zsolt Gárdonyi. Over the course of two and a half days, he will teach students of the main subject Music Theory. Faculty members and students from other programs at the Royal Conservatoire, as well as other members of the Dutch Society for Music Theory, are warmly invited to attend these workshops.

Julian Horton

From May 18 to 21, 2016, our Music Theorist in Residence (MTiR) will be visiting the Low Countries. We are delighted to welcome Julian Horton (Durham University) as this year's guest. The four-day event will feature an engaging program of lectures, workshops, and panel discussions. The theme of this MTiR is formal analysis of nineteenth-century orchestral repertoire.

Professor Horton will be a guest at KU Leuven on 18 and 19 May, and will then visit the Conservatorium van Amsterdam on 20 and 21 May.
